“I want to talk about this piece of property across from Frances Beauty Salon. I get calls from the shop occasionally talking about this problem across the street,” Board Chairman Dr. Macklyn Hubbell said. “An unused storage place is there, it’s doesn’t look like anybody occupies it and in the vacant lot next to it there’s a lot of trash and I took three men over there last week, to come and clean the property up.”
If anyone has a problem with trash on that piece of property, they need to call public works he said.
Hubbell mentioned the grass in the vacant lot would to need to be cut.
Ray Bell, Cleveland public works director, commented on the grass on the lot, “The grass there is already about 12 inches high. By this time next week, it will be about 16 or 17 inches high.”
Another item of unfinished business that was discussed was issue of stray shopping carts around town.
Bell mentioned someone from Kroger came to his office after Christmas to claim their carts that public works had picked up.
“Don’t the carts run bout $200 to $300 a piece?” asked Hubbell.
“Easy,” answered Bell. “Sometimes in a couple of months time, we’ve picked up 50 to 60 carts. When you factor in the price of one cart times 50 or 60, the stores would save money if we can work something out about getting the carts back to them.
“It would help the city if there was a plan because we won’t have to spend time getting them out of ditches. We won’t have to worry about them stopping up drains and cause flooding in some of our
