Several Detroit-based media organizations reported the alleged accomplice – who wxyz.com named as Joseph Gentz, manager of the Eagle Pointe Apartments in St. Clair Shores – was being held overnight at the Grosse Pointe Park police station and would face murder charges.

According to media reports, Gentz participated in the killing of Bashara with her husband, Bob Bashara, who authorities have identified as a person of interest in her death. He allegedly went to authorities because he was afraid he would be blamed for the whole thing and Bashara would escape, the reports stated.

Jane Bashara, 56, was found Jan. 25 in her Mercedes-Benz SUV in an alley near Moross and Hayes on Detroit’s east side, several miles from her home. An autopsy has determined she was strangled and beaten. Police have said she likely was killed in her home.

Grosse Pointe Park Public Safety Director David Hiller said Tuesday afternoon that “no comments are being made” in the case, which is also being investigated by Detroit police.

Jane Bashara, who was known as Jane Engelbrecht while growing up in Mount Clemens, worked as a marketing manager for an energy consulting company. She and her husband were married for 26 years and have two adult children.

A funeral service was held Tuesday morning. But at the same time, events outside of the service were moving rapidly after the alleged accomplice went to the police station before dawn to outline his role in the case, which is receiving international media
