Fashion Week | Masakkali Maiden


She’s young, full of energy and brimming with creative ideas that she is able to translate into lovely creations.

Meet 25-year-old Ankita Chaudhry who showcased her collection at the Bangalore Fashion Week on Saturday. “This was my first time in Bengaluru and it was exciting to be presenting my work to the stylish young women of this city,” says Ankita, whose collection ‘Masakkali’ comprised intricate wedding wear and a line of western wear with an Indian twist.

This youngster was introduced to the world of fashion by her mother who was a part of women’s welfare associations and taught women to sew, in order to sustain themselves. “I was interested in fabrics, structures and construction from the time I was little,” says Ankita, whose big break was her entry into the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week A/W 2011 in April.

It brought her appreciation and made sure she was noticed in the fashion world.

This designer is a travel buff and draws inspiration from her trips. Her creations at WLIFW were inspired by her Ladakhi holiday. She will be taking part in the Pret a Porter show in Paris in September.

“I am really excited, as it has the best of brands showcasing their collections. After the show, I intend to go backpacking across France with my friends and travel to all the non-commercial locations. I believe that you haven’t quite seen a place if you haven’t witnessed a sunrise and sunset there. I will make sure to catch both at least once during my week-long holiday,” she smiles.
