Garden Furniture | 700 Grant Makes Tea Time All Smiles

7:30pm Wednesday 1st September 2010

RESIDENTS at sheltered housing can now enjoy their tea parties in the sunshine after a grant paid for new garden furniture.

Retired ladies at George Tweed Gardens, in Shaw, applied to Swindon Council for a grass roots grant.

They were awarded 700 for their tea group, which allowed them to purchase new tables and chairs for their outdoor seating area.

The council sets aside around 50,000 a year to go to small community projects and applications can be submitted to local councillors before going before a judging committee.

Cheryl Orton, who chairs the tea group committee, said: “The new furniture has gone down very well with the residents and we put on a lovely display which was all prepared by tea club members.

“We were given 700 and the tables and chairs cost 820 in total. We raised the difference through some fundraising events ” there is no way we could have raised enough money to buy this furniture without the grant
