Update 11:25 p.m.: Battlefield Parkway is now open, according to Loudoun Alert.
Also, according to Weather Underground , the wind is vacillating between 14 and 16 mph at 11:24 p.m.
Update, 10:22 p.m.: Battlefield Parkway is shut down from Balls Bluff Road to the bypass because a tree is down in the road, according to Alert Loudoun.
Update 9:31p.m.: The weather is supposed to get interesting overnight, reaching wind speeds of about 30 miles per hour by around 1 am. Right now things seem pretty calm, there is a light rain, but visibility is affected. If you have to drive late at night, I’d advise caution.

Update 5:25 p.m.: Even after a day of relatively light rain “and a morbid sense of disappointment with the storm” our bravado might have been premature.
According to Weather.com , the storm could produce wind speeds of up to 31 miles per hour early Sunday morning. That’s high winds, or a moderate gale force, which the Beaufort Scale says will shake whole trees. You’d need to exert effort to walk against the wind in a storm like this, but I’m guessing you’ll probably still be in bed between 2 – 4 a.m., when it looks like it will be at its worst overnight.
By about 8 a.m., the storm will reach winds of 35 miles per hour, according to Weather.com’s predictions this evening.
Update 12:11 p.m.: Weather.com predicts we should be seeing a thunderstorm in an hour. Right now leaves are rustling outside my window, and a little garden ornament is tinkling in the breeze.
