Garden Center | Garden Center Ready To Provide ‘green Learning’
Public officials and Civic Garden Center of Cincinnati supporters will celebrate the opening of the center’s Green Learning Station today in Avondale from 9 to 11 a.m. The event features activities for children and information adults can use at home and in their gardens.
A completely remodeled former gas station and the paved lot around it serve as the focal point of the event. Four different types of gardens grow in beds atop the station, and a solar film captures energy.
The lot is a water drainage testing site monitored by the Garden Center, the Metropolitan Sewer District, University of Cincinnati students and the Cincinnati office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“The Green Learning Station is actually a demonstration site to show people what they can do to have a positive impact on the environment,” said Ryan Mooney-Bullock, the station’s program manager.
Its three themes are gardening anywhere and everywhere, composting, and catching rainwater
