Garden Lawn | Free Concerts Continue In Connecticut

Enjoy the lazy days of summer with free, outdoor concerts. This week’s featured concerts include a concert in the garden of Roseland Cottage, classic rock music and several opportunities to get up and dance to the rhythms of Latin America.

This year’s West Indian Independence Parade Celebration, the 49th, steps off at 10 a.m. culminates with a reggae festival beginning at 3 p.m. in Bushnell Park Aug. 13, featuring Serani , Connecticut’s Ardie Cuban and Don Minott , Junior Holt , Trvia , Sledge , Don C , Tala Tala , Flayme , Mario Cheef , Kamar Dapa and the Inner Roots Band . The show is free.

The Dave Palla Quartet performs Thursday, Aug. 11, on the Town Green in East Hartford . The quartet plays a variety of classic and original jazz music and features Palla on guitar and vocals, Dan Scheer on keyboard, Paul Fuller on bass and Tido Holtkamp on percussion. Enjoy an evening of Latin songs, instruments and storytelling tonight at the Parkville Senior Center in Hartford. Mariachi band Fiesta del Norte will perform in traditional “charro” outfits. The concert begins at 6 p.m. at the center, 11 New Park Ave. Details: or 860-568-1172.

Enjoy a twilight concert in the gardens of Roseland Cottage Saturday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. Sweet Daddy Cool Breeze performs upbeat blues and rock. Arrive early to peruse through the 1850s-style gardens. Clearview performs at the final Thomaston summer music event Monday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. in Seth Thomas Park. The classic rock band’s repertory includes Motown and country music.
