The Federal Government has been called upon to pay attention to the emerging health issue of obesity among children.
A United States-based physician, Dr. Chidozie Ononuju who spoke in Abuja yesterday during the opening of his Health Clinic dedicated to weight challenges said, obesity has always been common with adults but children are beginning to get affected by the problem of weight gain.

According to him, plea to the government was as a result of the effect the health problem can generate within the younger generation, “whose responsibilities it was to pilot the affairs of the country in the future” he said.
Saying that obesity in children has implications on the life span of the affected children, Ononuju emphasized that government input in checking the emerging health problem has to do with government policy on food security,
“The problem is not far from what we eat. Government comes as the one responsible for the provision of an enabling environment for farmers to thrive and since there is no nation without health issues, government must protect the future of the country through sound food security policies”.
