and the England and Wales Cricket Board

Mr Butt stated: “I wish personally and on behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board to withdraw the comments I made concerning the England and Wales Cricket Board and each of the England players who played in the NatWest one-day international at the Brit Insurance Oval on Friday 17 September. It is regrettable that there was a misunderstanding arising from my comments.

I would like to make it quite clear that in the statements which I made I never intended to question the behaviour and integrity of the England players nor the ECB nor to suggest that any of them were involved in any corrupt practices or in a conspiracy against Pakistan cricket.

“In particular, I wish to make it clear that I have never seen any evidence of any wrongdoing by any England player or the ECB at any time.

I deeply and sincerely regret that my statements have been interpreted to cast doubt upon the good names of the England players and the ECB and hope that this public withdrawal will draw a line under the matter.

“The ECB and its chairman have been and continue to be a friend of and hugely supportive of Pakistan cricket. I am very grateful for their efforts in that regard and for their hospitality this summer.

“We at the PCB, like all other cricket governing bodies, are committed to a zero tolerance policy to corruption in the game and will continue to work hard with the relevant authorities to eradicate it.”

The ECB and the England players who played at the Brit Oval warmly welcome this withdrawal and now regard the matter closed. Mr Giles Clarke confirmed that following this statement he is continuing in his role as the ICC Pakistan task team chairman.   .. more …

The Human Factor, a new feature film based on South Africa’s 1995 World Cup victory and Nelson Mandela is about to start filming in Cape Town.
This was a great moment in our country’s history especially as we’re such a sports mad nation. You soon realise just how much our advertising reflects this when you look at some of the television advertising with major and minor stadia used for many shoots.

2010 has brought with it the opportunity to upgrade many of our Province’s facilities, adding world class glamour to these potential locations. But be prepared for some major filming restrictions before, during and after both the Confederations Cup in June 2009 and the World Cup in June 2010, especially in the surrounding precincts of the three official stadia.

There are also expected to be minor restrictions for training stadia and base camps (some of which still have to be announced). Although Johannesburg and Tshwane may be over-subscribed during the Confederations Cup and World Cup, remember that Gauteng has many other great opportunities in terms of sports grounds and accommodation and would be delighted to host film crews!

Gauteng definitely is not just about the ‘big three’ 2010 FIFA World Cup stadiums and the Province has many sports grounds throughout the main cities and towns, some of which have been in the international spotlight before.

Two of South Africa’s most important rugby stadia are in Gauteng: Loftus Versfeld in Tshwane, home of the Blue Bulls, and Ellis Park (recently renamed Coca-Cola Park) in Johannesburg, where the Springboks won the Rugby World Cup in 1995. Also within the Ellis Park precinct is the Joburg Stadium, which is dedicated to athletics. The official home of Gauteng cricket is The Wanderers Cricket Stadium. Together with Supersport Park in Centurion, Tshwane, and Willowmoore Park in Benoni, Ekurhuleni, it played a significant role in the success of the 2003 Cricket World Cup.

Gauteng is to be home to three 2010 FIFA World Cup stadiums. Ellis Park stadium and Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg and Tshwane’s Loftus Versfeld are all being upgraded to World Cup standards. Loftus Versfeld and Royal Bafokeng are privately-owned venues, while Ellis Park is on long-lease arrangement, with Soccer City stadium, which was previously owned and managed by the South African Football Association, being returned to the State, and managed by the City of Johannesburg.

Johannesburg 2010: Soccer City Stadium, or the FNB Stadium as it is known, situated in Nasrec, is the flagship venue for the Soccer World Cup 2010, and it will be hosting both the opening match and the final. Soccer City Stadium is the largest in Africa. The stadium provides 80 000 plastic bucket seats, and has a two metre ‘moat’ to protect the players from the fans. The upper tier has been extended around the stadium and 99 corporate boxes added, to increase the capacity to 94 700. An encircling roof was added, creating the impression of a giant calabash. Soccer City is home to the South African Football Association and the home ground for Orlando Pirates.

With four months to go before the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup kicks off in June, renovations at Ellis Park, the host stadium of the opening and final matches, are complete with only final touches left. Ellis Park has undergone major changes. A new roof has been added with the west, south and north stands being revamped and additional seating added. New change rooms, VIP, media and medical facilities and a new entrance facade to the north stand have been built. It can now seat 62 000 football fans.

With the completion of the stadium, the focus has shifted towards the precinct upgrade, which is also nearing completion. Landscaping includes a water feature between Ellis Park Stadium and Johannesburg Stadium as well as public art installations. The Olympic-size swimming pool in the sports precinct has also been upgraded.

Johannesburg is also host to training venues. Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto has undergone refurbishments to the tune of R69million in preparation for being one of the three official training venues for the World Cup. The old stadium has been completely revamped, with a new grandstand and world-class facilities added. It has a contemporary design with a roof covering spectators on the grandstand. Four floodlit towers at each of the four corners of the stadium will provide lighting. It will double up as an athletics venue and a synthetic track and new polycarbonate seats have been installed all round the stadium.

The other two training venues are Orlando Stadium, also in Soweto, and Rand Stadium, in the south of the City.

Tshwane 2010: Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Sunnyside is one of South Africa’s oldest and most established stadiums and the site has been used for sports events since 1903. Construction at the stadium is almost complete. The new roof over the eastern pavilion is a major upgrade project.

In addition, the stadium is also receiving new media and venue operations centres. Loftus is home to the premier soccer league club, Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as the Blue Bulls.

Tshwane’s training venues include the Super Stadium at Atteridgeville, a 25 000 seat stadium. Since 2007 the stadium has undergone substantial upgrade including the construction of a new main pavilion, VIP suites and new flood lighting and is now at a stage where it can be used for international matches. The HM Pitje Stadium is also a 25 000 seater and its 2010 upgrade includes a brand new main pavilion.

Ekurhuleni 2010: While none of the World Cup matches will be played in Ekurhuleni, there are four potential practice stadiums namely Sinaba, Vosloosrus, Makhulong, and Katlehong stadiums. Construction at Makhulong Stadium is well on track and scheduled to be ready by the middle of 2009.

With a planned capacity of about 15 000 seats, the stadium will comply with all FIFA and Premier Soccer League (PSL) requirements. These include flood lights, player and management facilities, security, amenities, VIP and V-VIP areas as well as a 200 square meter media facility. Mogale City Kaizer Chiefs will become the first team in South Africa to own their own stadium when the 55 000 Seater Amakhosi Stadium is completed this year.

The new stadium, which is being developed at a cost of R1.2 billion, will be part of a greater sports precinct being developed 40km West of Johannesburg.

Sedibeng: Although not an official training ground the George Thabe Stadium in Vereeniging has been upgraded. A lot of work is being done in and around the stadium as part of a larger Sedibeng 2010 precincts project.

In this often cut-throat competition among entry level and budget feature phones, its not uncommon to see old handsets get rehashed or updated with new features with just a letter or number appended to the original model designation. The mobile phone leader Nokia is quite deep into this tradition of taking successful handsets and appending the letter i on its model number.

Remember the 6303 Classic released last May 2009? Well, who would have though that 7 months down the road, it would be getting some updating? Nokia has just announced that with its new Nokia 6303i Classic.

At a Glance

The 6303i is essentially a twin of its 7-month old 6303 Classic. It gets a higher 55 MB memory from 17 MB. That should allow a few more simple games on the handset. Its microSD expansion slot can now read 8 GB where before it can only go up to 4 GB.

But sadly, unless we are seeing a printing error on the spec sheet, its video recording gets downgraded from a decent VGA resolution at 15fps into QVGA at 8fps. This could be let-down for any 6303 Classic owners thinking of moving up to its. But other than these, the two models are identical.

  • The 6303i is a tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900) on 2G with GPS/EDGE data connectivity speeds. Theres also local data connectivity support from Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB 2.0.
  • Multimedia starts with capable players for mp3/wav/eAAC and WMA audio formats and H.263 and H.264 for video formats. It comes with a stereo FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth A2DP for wireless stereo headsets and a 3.5mm headphone jack. You get a brilliant 2.2-inch QVGA TFT LCD display with 16 million color support.
  • Imaging is fairly good with a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with dual LED flash and a less than stellar video recording QVGA/8fps and QCIF/15fps.
  • It sports a conventional candybar form factor on a body measuring 108.8 x 46.2 x 11.7mm and weighs a pocket-friendly 96 g. Its 1050 mAh Lithium-ion battery provides up to 8 hours of talk and up to 515 hours in standby. Music listening on the road gets a generous 30 hours of continuous playback time.
  • It comes preloaded with Nokia Maps 2.0, instant messaging support, email clients and a WAP 2.0-enabled HTML web browser with Flash Lite 3.0 support.

Conclusion

The Nokia 6303i Classic is certainly a capable value handset that weve come to expect from a Nokia. But theres nothing groundbreaking about it in looks or function. Scheduled to appear within the first quarter of 2010, it will have a SIM-free price of 105 excluding taxes and subsidies – a bit overpriced for a mediocre feature set, but youre really paying for the Nokia name more than anything.

Check it out when the handset finally gets you to favorite carrier for a plan. If you already own the previous 6303 handset, theres no reason to move to this one. But on its own, any grade schooler would be happy to own one.

England Cricket | Interesting Odds Available During Difficult Times

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

As we begin the process of easing through the recession there are even greater signs of hope when it comes to online betting. Certain sporting events over the next few months have perhaps not been studied closely enough by the bookmakers meaning that the punters could have an upper hand over the next quarter.

Events such the Champions League, Englands cricket tour to South Africa and Formula 1 have had certain odds looked at incorrectly, or, more precisely, have been predicted poorly. When it comes to the Champions League, most online bookmakers have made Barcelona the favourites, no one wins the Holy Grail twice in a row, it just doesn’t happen no matter how great the team is. The Champions League remains one of the hardest tournaments to win despite being held every year.

As it goes you can therefore get some decent odds on suggested outsiders such as Chelsea at 5-1, Bayern Munich at 25-1 and Liverpool at 9-1. Wolfsburg, the German Bundesliga Champions are certainly likely to stir up a storm and are brilliantly priced at 66-1 which at each way(to make the final) is fantastic value for a team many will likely underestimate.

With regards to the cricket England have just regained the Ashes against an Australian team that were way out of sorts and while South Africa are not what they were, England will face a stubborn and stern test over there. They are however still reasonably fresh with new faces and talent all over the park. The majority of online bookmakers have England at 7-2 for the test series which is certainly worth a few quid. The price for South Africa being 8/15 is too high and unlikely to test many punters resolve.

Formula 1 on the other hand is probably in its most exciting season since it began, no one is sure who will win, even with Jenson Buttons dramatic start, and lead after 7 races. With Jenson Button odds on it would be up to Rubens Barrichello and Seb Vettel to do the most damage priced at 3/1 and 33/1 respectively.

Something could still go drastically wrong for the leader and if Vettel can push on with a few wins then the biggest Formula 1 upset could be on the cards. If one was to delve into the odds much more closely than usually one will notice how the top 10 online bookmakers have made a few errors where it comes to the pricing and things like this should be taken advantage of.

Pakistan Cricket | Pakistani Cricket Team Surrounded By Controversies

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

When any team wins they celebrate and moral of the team go high after the WIN and players try to work harder and practice more to perform even better and somewhat pressure shifted from their shoulders towards the losing team, BUT if you are Pakistani team player then all of that didn’t apply on you.

This is what happened on Friday 17th 2010 match against England, where Pakistan defeated England comprehensively and came right back into the 5 ODI’s series by registering their 1st win, England was ahead by winning two matches earlier so this win made the series alive otherwise England would have won the series as they won four test match series by winning three test and losing one and the T20 series by winning both matches easily.

But even after winning this crucial match and winning it somewhat convincingly by playing really good cricket and somehow Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi lead the way after two consecutive defeats, and made sure all the team members to perform in all departments i.e. Fielding, Bowling (Which was outstanding in this match) and batting (which is the weakest department for quit sometime, specially the opening pair) here comes another fixing controversy that this match was fixed, Another match fixing allegation on Pakistan. Cricket fans didn’t able to forget the earlier spot fixing issue yet in which three Pakistani players (Test Team Captain Salman Butt, Young Fast Bowler Muhammad Aamir And Always Problematic Muhammad Aasif Whom should be banned for lifetime after arresting in Dubai for carrying cocaine, U.A.E imposed lifetime ban on his arrival in their territory and we still let him play for our team) were named that they were in the contact with bookies.

Latest issue of the match fixing was that the pattern of the Pakistani player performance was suspected specially in the middle over’s. They batted with really slow run rate. So even after winning the match player’s moral was again down to bottom as they lost the series after this latest controversy arise against Pakistani cricket.

The forth ODI result just came and Pakistan won the match and square the series with 2-2 thanks to the pace attack. Devastating swing bowling of Umar Gull and Rawalpindi express Shoaib Akhtar, now all comes to the final 5th match, I wish good luck to Pakistan team which came out from the entire allegation and said it all with their performance.
