Zimbabwe Cricket | Indian Premier League – Flintoff, Kp Lead English Cricketers For Auction

For their prospective teams in the IPL, having one of them in their team shall give it added stature, as these men have the ability to carry their team on a given day if needed to. And it is because of their exploits of what they can do in the cricket field both in international competitions and in domestic matches have made them the highest priced players for the IPL auction on February 6.

Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff are expected to draw salaries that are comparable to football players for their three week stint in the IPL as the duo lead a cast of 20 English cricket players who have entered the Indian Premier League auction. The eight teams in the IPL use the auction to get players that they perceive that they need to improve their chances of winning the tournament this year which shall be held on April 10 to May 29.

Prolific batsman Pietersen has been awarded the highest reservation fee among all England players at $1.35 million while all rounder Flintoff came in second at $950,000. Even if the duo were paid their minimum price, their pay for their three week stint can be above $350,000 pro rata basis for the tournament, a salary comparable to top flight footballers like Cristiano Ronaldo and Frank Lampard.

Flintoff, on the other hand, may have $950,000 but it can possibly go higher as the teams shall try to outbid each other just to get him. It can turn into a competitive bidding and a price war since these teams can afford to do so and are very keen to get the top English all rounder. Among the teams rumored to be interested in his services are the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians. He can turn into the the highest paid player then.

Last season, the two highest priced contracts were given to Indian captain MS Dhoni who agreed to a @1.5 million contarct after initially being valued at $400,000. Australian all rounder Andrew Symmonds acquired the second highest contract of $1.3 million after he was rated at $300,000.

Seeing such contracts awarded to players who join the IPL, a total number of 114 players with 27 Australians, 14 South Africans, 15 Sri Lankans, and a group of players coming from the West Indies, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have declared themselves available for the auction. The reality though is that with only eight teams in the league and limited team places, not everyone who has decided to join the auction may be picked up in the auction and awarded the contracts. Aside from Pietersen and Flintoff, English cricketers who have intentions of joining the IPL are Steve Harmison, James Anderson, Ian Bell, Paul Collingwood, Matt Prior, Monty Panesar, Ravi Bopara, Shaun Udal, Ryan Sidebottom, Owais Shah and Graeme Swan.

Powerhouse Australia have its vice-captain Michael Clarke, Bradd Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Stuart Clark, Jason Krejza, Shaun Tait and Bradd Hogg among others as participants.

Australia Cricket | Cricket Results – Finally Australia Gets A Close Win

Today, a twenty20 match held between Australia and New Zealand, and finally Australia wins the match by 1 run only. Both teams fought bravely for their win but at the end Australian team was a little bit luckier then New Zealand and due to which Australia wins the match. Australian team choose the batting after winning the toss and BJ Haddin (Captain) and DA Warner give a decent opening start to the team. But after scoring 15 runs Haddin goes to pavilion. Then at one down position Ferguson comes to stabilize the team and cricket scores as well. After the dismissal of Haddin, Warner also got out and DJ Hussey comes on the crease. Now the whole emphasis was on Ferguson but he also failed to support the team and he scored only 8 runs and bowled out by butler.

Now the whole burden of the batting lines was on DJ Hussey and on AC Voges, and they supported the team as well by building a partnership of 52 runs. When Australia reached at 104runs, they have to beard one more loss and that loss is of DJ Hussey, who got out after scoring 41 runs. Now once again the balance of Australian team started to shake. On the dismissal of DJ Hussey, JR Hopes came to bat. JR Hopes and CL White scored 16 runs each and take Australia to a reasonable fighting total.

Australia gave the target of 151 runs to New Zealand which was quite easily attainable for New Zealand team. They also have in their minds that the cricket results of this match were in their hands and they could easily take the win for their team. From New Zealand side BB McCullum and MG Guptil came to open the innings but Guptil goes out after just facing two balls and New Zealand had to face the first shock.

But the story doesn’t ends here as just after the dismissal of Guptil, PG Fulton also got out by scoring 1 run only. Fulton was one down batsman and he just failed to support the batting line of his team. After the fall of two quick wickets, NT Broom came to bat. He and McCullum scored 36 and 61 runs respectively and took New Zealand back into the game. But suddenly on the total of 73, Broom got out and GD Elliot came to the crease.

It was a test for Elliot as well and some how he was succeeded in that test as he played a not out knock of 23 runs. When score reaches to 131 and the New Zealand become confident that they would easily won the match, the key player McCullum got out. He played a knock of 61 runs. Then no other batsman could take the charge which can take New Zealand to the victory stand and they managed to score 149 runs on the loss of 5 wickets.

West Indie Cricket | Cricket Update – What A Dramatic Save By West Indian Team

It was 5th day of the second test match and everyone was sure that English Bowlers would stuck seven players of West Indies and probably level the series by 1-1. When 5th day of test match started it was Chanderpaul and Sarwan who has to resume the innings. Both the players started their innings with a positive attitude and played their natural game and they build a strong partnership and took score to 244 from 96. This was the first turning point of the match that was done by West Indian Batsmen. Then at that stage West Indies had to face their first blow of the day and they have to bear the loss of Sarwan who scored 106 runs. In first inning, he became the victim of nervous ninety’s but this time he finished that well and completed his century. His century turned the match into West Indies side and that innings put a dramatic impact on the cricket result.

West Indian team wanted some more contribution from Sarwan but he got out and then and Nash came on the crease to defend its tail ender batsmen. Soon after the dismissal of Sarwan, Chanderpaul also got out after scoring 55 runs, a decent contribution, but not up to the mark and total score was raised by 55 runs. The team wanted much more than this from Chanderpaul. Anyhow Ramdin, the West Indian team’s wicket keeper, along with Nash consumed a number of balls and make the flow of match towards a draw. When the score reached at 287, Nash got out lbw on the ball of Swann. This was the sixth wicket which has been fallen and English team was very hopeful for a victory at that time. When Benn got out, at that time it looked like that West Indies going to lose again as it was the 8th wicket which has been fallen. But FH Edwards played a responsible innings along with the Powell and ends the match in a draw. It was a great day for West Indies as they have saved their 1-0 lead in the series but a hopeless day for England as they are at an arm’s length from the victory.

According to Yousuf, he had asked Mr. Zardari to look himself in to the matter of ICL Players as the PCB is not handling the issue according to its nature. ICL players issue is getting more sensitive day by day. Players who have joined the Indian cricket League have been banned from playing their national team. This ban has put bad impact on the performances of the cricket teams as many of good players have moved to ICL.

You can see this difference easily from the scores and stats of the teams by having a comparison with old and new matches. In early days near about every country have put ban on the players who have joined the ICL. But after the Sri Lanka’s full ban removal, Pakistan has also partially removed the ban from ICL players. PCB has allowed the ICL players to play the domestic season after a judgment that was passed by Sindh High Court. But the thing that players want is the complete removal of ban from them so that they can freely play for leagues and for their national team as well.

Yousuf have approached to pattern in chief of board just because he didn’t have anymore trust on PCB. And due to similar reason he along with other ICL players had entered a petition in the Court as well. Mr. Zardari has promised Yousuf and other players that he will look in to the matter by himself and take the decision that will be good for the Pakistan, for the team and for the players as well.

India Cricket | Cricket Update – India Confirms Tour Of Sri Lanka

The schedule for the tour has not been finalized yet but the secretary of the BCCI, N. Srinivasan said that it will take place sometime during the 2 weeks window in Sri Lanka’s tour to Pakistan, that is, from Jan 28 to February 14.
According to the chief executive of Sri Lanka Cricket, SLC, the matches will be played in the cities of Dambulla and Colombo. The venues are yet undecided as well though there is a strong chance the R Premadasa Stadium and the SSC will be seeing some action.

Being a fan of cricket I was much disappointed when under the administration of Ranatunga the 2 countries had started having a downfall in their relationship. This was due to the refusal of the Sri Lankan board to allow their players to participate in the IPL. I heaved a sigh of relief when the SLC confirmed committing its’ players to the IPL which will take place this April and also assured the Indian Cricket Board of their assistance on the ICL problem. However, the sacking of Ranatunga by the Sri Lankan sports minister Gamini Laokuge, left a bad taste in my mouth as he was both a great cricketer and a hero in Sri Lankan cricket. He is one guy who deserved better than that.

A further effort to strengthen ties between the 2 cricketing nations is also underway. It’s been reported that a long term contract is going to be signed between the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) the day of the upcoming Twenty20 match next month.

The sports minister, Mr. Lokuge said that all issues between the 2 countries regarding cricket had been resolved and that the IPL had already allowed 5 of its’ cricketers to take part in the upcoming IPL tournament. He claimed that this would strengthen the relationship and goodwill between the 2 countries and will result in more cricket tours between them. He also confirmed that the IPL had decided to stand by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) on the issue of ICL.

The BCCI secretary Mr. Srinivasan showed his pleasure at the cordial resolution of all pertaining issues between the 2 countries regarding cricket and said that the “BCCI … will be committed to support SLC in the future”.

Despite being glad that things have come to an amicable end, I feel that the treatment given to Arjuna Ranatunga was too harsh if not completely unjust. He was the biggest reason why Sri Lanka won the 1996 cricket World Cup and under him Sri Lankan cricket flourished like it had never done before. I am not saying that he should have been allowed to do whatever pleased him with no check on his actions but perhaps a better solution to the problem could have been found.

After the highly successful first season, it is reported that 4 new franchises will join the IPL in the season 2010-2011.The new confirmed franchises are Ahmadabad, with Anil Ambani’s name associated wit it, and Kanpur with Sahara group; associated with it. The tentative dates for the second season of the DLF Indian Premier League, had been announced by the Chairman & League Commissioner, Lalit Modi. It has been set from April 10th, 2009 to May 29th, 2009.

The formats of the season will remain the same as the first season. The auction of the players will begin in Goa on 6th. There are 114 players up for grabs in this auction. Indian premier league which was formed on the on the lines of English premier league and national basketball league has also become a Mega Major Sporting event. Will the much hyped T20 championship league be able to continue its success run, or its bubble will burst in the coming years? We shall find out as the series unfolds.
