Finally the selectors made a good decision of not selecting Yuvraj singh for the Asia cup, this is because he was not been able to make outstanding play in the last few series. He was been able to participate in many tournaments only because of the Dhoni being a great support for him. Even though Dhoni knew that he was not able to make any contribution to the team score but then too he got the support of Dhoni. In the previous 11 ODIs he was able to manage to make the average of less then twenty five. However the selectors have made the right decision even thought they were not been able to make the decision before.

More than that, it has also been seen that Dhoni was also not been able to perform well but being a captain he is on a safer position as far as selection is concerned. The selecting committee includes Kris Srikkanth and so it is no doubt that Dhoni has to be in the Indian cricket team because Dhoni is his favorite.

There have been many articles which had been written about Indian cricket team one of them had stated that there are chances of Yuvi to be dropped from the team for Asian cup and at the same time there was a mention that Rahul Dravid may get a chance for it. However this did not take place as selectors did not consider him even though he had served performed so wonderfully for past so many years. He must have actually been used to the ignorance showed by the selectors every time.

The current position of the Indian cricket team is that the members of the team have not been able to manage the victory against the Zimbabwean team which is very strong. Despite of this the members of the team are of the opinion that the team can perform well and is doing the best.Let’s come back to Yuvraj he is facing some difficult times this is because he has given the permission the critics to point out on him. Yuvraj is very good at playing limited over game which includes fast T10 or T20. However he has not been able to perform well in ODIs as well as test matches. These are the matches that demand great amount of patience as well as steadiness to tackle the situation.

One of the very good things that the selectors of the Indian cricket team is that they have not taken the risk of experimenting and paying attention on those cricketers that are performing well so that hey can be included in the world Cup next year. There are many things on which the Indian cricket team needs to focus on like performance, practice and many more things.

Whatever kind of performance Indian cricketers give in some period of time we will surely forget their poor performances and look forward to next performances with greta hopes!

Moving on from football, to India’s passion, my joy and the game of eleven fools (as George Bernard Shaw described it) cricket. I think a very few people in India do not know what cricket is, and the rest constitute the millions of fools who are ardent followers of the Men in Blue (the BCCI Indian Cricket team marketed to the core). Cricket for many Indians (including me) is larger than life and the basis of life itself. Cricket is to India what football is to Brazil. Ask a true Indian cricket fan what he/she longs, lives for and cherishes the most and he/she will say “To watch India win the match!” (accompanied with a big smile).

One of the happiest moments of my life was to watch India make it to the World Cup finals in 2003. Unfortunately the 23rd March 2003 also turned out to be one of the saddest, apparently Ricky Ponting (Punter) had other plans, and as his nickname suggests better placed bets. A few mistakes by the Indian cricket team captained very ably by Sourav Ganguly (Dada,Prince of Calcutta, God of the off-side) saw me, and many Indians, on that fateful day reduced to tears, in our “Men In Blue” Tri-Colour painted T-Shirts and faces. Heartbroken we wiped the tears off and hoped we would get to see that moment of glory which the generation before us had witnessed at Lords in 1983. That moment where the underdogs, Kapil Dev’s Indian cricket team won us the world cup against the then invincible West Indian Cricket team.

Cricket my love, my passion and a truly beautiful game. I say that because, there are a few things in life, more beautiful for an Indian cricket fan than that lovely Sachin Tendulkar straight drive (down the ground), or that immaculate Rahul Dravid square cut and not to forget the perfectly timed drives on the off-side by the God of the off-side Sourav Ganguly. Makes cricket seem a touch romantic (Yuvraj makes cricket literally romantic, to his female fans, he is also great at fielding and very good at batting, sorry ladies).

It is often said Indians get too emotional about cricket (I am accused of the same), well the accusations are correct. I mean people do get emotional in life at some point of time. Life without cricket is unimaginable, sometimes I wonder why? Then I remember that cricket flows through my veins and I inherited the passion (like many Indians). I remember my life in two phases, one before the 1992 World Cup and the other after it,courtesy Dad (though he does not admit it, he loves cricket as much, maybe more). Cricket might not be played in the Gentleman’s outfit anymore but has lost little of its captivating magic.

Cricket is to India what football is to Brazil…Indian cricket always held a special place among all the other sports. The Indian team though greatly unpredictable yet the fan following is by no mean less. The Indian cricket fans are always assured of a fanatic game; credit goes to our players who play in an inconsistent way till the end of the tournament. This erratic nature of the game makes it so very desirable for the supporters and lovers of Indian cricket worldwide.

India never performs alone on the field, the entire country with a population of 967 million plays with them. You could easily sense how passionate the country is about cricket. Playing under an absolute pressure and tense atmosphere, Indian team has some very great moments to cherish. From gully cricket to hosting the tri-color in the global arena, Indian cricket team is among one of the most powerful teams ever.

With the passage of time, there had been a tremendous improvement in the way Indian cricketers performs. The ‘right cricket sense’ is what makes you a great cricketer. The carefully selected team with a perfect combination of young, old and experienced players makes it a balanced team. The entire world had witnessed the way Indian cricket team performed and won in the Twenty20 World Cup held in South Africa a few months back.

Lately the Indian team had been playing lots of cricket and that too remarkably well. Such performances show how well the team has been evolved till now. In other words, you win some and you lose some, that’s the way the Indian cricket is. Youngsters like Dhoni, Pathan, Yuvraj, Ishant Sharma give the team the much needed rage and speed while the players like Sehwag, Sachin, and Dravid provide the team with the much needed perfection and balance to accomplish the highest levels.

The much hyped cricket is a multi-billion affair game due to the popularity it enjoys among the fans. Whenever the Indian team wins, they are heavily rewarded. There is a massive commercial market waiting for all the superstars of cricket. A successful cricketer has every chance to earn big money with the product they endorse. If we see the other side of the picture, each cricketer owe his success to the cricket fans. Talking about Indian fans, they belong to an emotional class. If their favorite cricketers perform well, the fans will treat them like superstars else they don’t mind abusing them their heart out.

The cricket experts and gurus do see lot many potential in the current Indian cricket team, if they remain focused to their games and improve it more with the time; chances are fair that very soon they will be among the most successful team in the international cricket. The only thing which needs to be checked is the excessive commercialization of Indian cricket. The Indian Premier League format is an example of this. Although it gave a helping hand to those players who were dropped out of one day cricket due to non performance and at the same time some new talents emerged out of this cricket extravaganza.

This new format of cricket in the form of IPL is not new to the world, countries like England, South Africa, and Australia do follow it but it should not anywhere affect the originality of the game. India would be hosting the 2010 common-wealth games and cricket world cup; this will be a great opportunity for the Indian cricket team to bring back the world cup home in their home ground. We all wish to witness some great cricket and see if history repeats itself or not.

Finally the number one cricketing status in terms of wicket taking abilities and scoring runs has dawned on the financial superpowers of the game. There was always a lurking question in everyone’s mind that a country that has so much cricketing money at its disposal can’t face the brunt of a nation with population of half of that of its most populated state. Australia was always a better team and better by a distance. India, South Africa and Sri Lanka always looked second but the difference from the number one was similar to that of a Usain Bolt from the number two in a 100 meter dash.

It took a good 10 years if not more for the sub-continental giants to reach the pinnacle of Test cricket and the journey was no less than what can be converted into a brilliant Hindi movie script. It had everything from humiliation, insult, exultation, moments of pride and honor and a lot of joy. After the match fixing scandal broke out the team was in a state of despair and a tour Down Under did not help matters. A 3-0 defeat shook a nation which prides in its cricketing icons. The media went gaga over the clich which reads “Tigers at home, rabbits abroad” and the players had nowhere to hide. The only thing that could have helped was a resounding comeback.

The team waited as their chance of redemption came when Steve Waugh announced that by winning in India he would complete a win everywhere he played in this era. The Aussies came at the back of 15 consecutive wins and two more would have made it a world record. Mumbai was easy for them as the batting failed to rise again and the bowling looked average but for a team of champions including the trio of SachinTendulkar, Rahul Dravid and skipper Sourav Ganguly, they have had enough. In Kolkata after a pathetic first innings show, a man known for his style of batting emerged to be counted from now on in the Fabulous 4. VVS Laxman played a momentous knock and from then till now has been a permanent fixture in the Test playing 11. Dravid showed what mettle he is made up of and Harbhajan did the rest. Redemption was on the cards and a win in Chennai would have made sure India had staged a comeback after a serious debacle.

This time it was the turn of the champion batsman Sachin to shine. He did the expected and the bowlers took care of the rest. Australia’s jaggernaut was halted and India was still a powerhouse at home. While the performances started to compel audiences, the attitude changed as well. Sourav Ganguly instilled the spirit of never-say-die and fearlessness amongst his wards. Even the great McGrath was seen in his eyes and Steve Waugh was intimidated.

What followed that series is a number game. India won Tests in England, West Indies and Sri Lanka and though winning Tests abroad was a good thing to happen, they still lagged behind in notching up series wins. The first big upset happened when this side hampered Steve Waugh’s farewell series in 2003-04. Ganguly staged a wonderful hundred at Brisbane to start of on an inspiring note and his wards especially bowlers took care of the rest. Laxman was again special and so was Rahul Dravid. The Adelaide win was the first in Australia in 22 years and had Sydney favoured us India could have done what no team since 1992-93 have done Down Under.

Then came the pressure cooker series against arch-rivals Pakistan. India were the better side going into the contest but Pakistan at home have always thrashed India. Diplomatically this was a “DilJeet Lo” contest and not only did the Indians win hearts they also did wonders with the willow and leather. India beat Pakistan hands down in both Tests and ODI’s. History graced them as this was their first series win in the sub-continental neighbourhood.

The team underwent a little passage of a administration hiccup post this as the Greg Chappell-Ganguly saga dominated more than the wins or losses, the latter though increased after a long time. The home defeats to Australia and England didn’t help matters. It was a classic case of a coup but like all the time, the Indian cricket team also came out stronger from the fracas. Dravid was handed over the helm of affairs and in West Indies, India won its first Test series outside the sub-continent in the last 20 odd years, discounting Zimbabwe from the account.

The side kept winning in bits and pieces in the coming years both home and away. The first ever win in South Africa came in a game in which India’s most successive skipper made a comeback and the angry young man S. Sreesanth skittled the opposition in their own backyard. Then came the big win as for the first time the Indian team beat England in a Test series at the English backyard.

Their was a debacle in 2007 when the side under the leadership of Rahul Dravid bowed out of the 50 over world cup in the first stage itself. India also lost a series in Australia and a lot of controversies came up for useless reasons. But this team as always fought back and the real race for the number one slot in Tests began from here.

Australia were beaten and so were the English. India had now learnt to win chasing 380 odd batting fourth and the batters looked equally good playing on sheets of grass. We now had pacers who could take 20 wickets and spinners who on a good track didn’t bother about anyone’s reputation. The confidence was sky-high and the pride intact.

Even then it took us 10 years from where the process began in 1999 to finally scale the number one summit in 2009. If we thought that the job is done, we are fools because the tougher task of retaining the place begins only now. In a country where it’s often said that the seat of the Indian skipper is hotter than the Prime Minister’s, to hold on to that seat when the pressure would be the most has to be tough. People criticized MSD a lot after the T20 World Cup debacle but if he heard all that patiently and did not retort like an angry general, this is his time to reap rewards. At the end of the day numbers say that this Indian team has won 22 and lost only 10 in the last five years. At a time when social disbalance is becoming a problem for India on a daily basis Dhoni’s wards have proved that no matter what people say the true beauty of India lies in its diversity.

Sachin Tendulkar: This man does not need any introduction, at least in India. And if he does for you, then please tell which planet you are from? You may not belong to the earth, for sure. The greatest cricketer born in India till date, he has left very less to be done for others, so no one will have any chance to be greater than him in near future. He is adorned by many names as Master Blaster, Run Machine and ‘A 5’5” Giant’, as Ricky Ponting has called him. In our country, India, cricket is the only religion which does not distribute and make people fight, politicians can not make use of it to play with peoples’ sentiments and increase their vote banks. It does not cause any riots, no one gets killed on its name, and Sachin is the God of this religion, the greatest epitome of it. His name is now synonym of cricket. Most of the time, the players are identified by the game they play, but in India, Sachin identifies the game itself. If somebody does not know about cricket, he will still know Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, and would identify cricket as the game Sachin plays. He is a nightmare for bowlers; he even came in dreams of Shane Warne hitting him outside the ground. He holds virtually every record in batting. With his small height, he stands tall among all his counterparts. I just request him that he continues to frighten the bowlers, sitting on th e pile of records which grows higher and higher.

Sourav ‘Dada’ Ganguly: Don’t go on his boyish looks! He will knock you down if the time belongs to him. That’s what, the most successful captain of India, Sourav Chandidas Ganguly, had done throughout his career. He always had to fight, with the selectors, with the board, for his team, for young players and ironically, for himself also, and he did it all, with glory and elan. There were few people who did not cherish his flamboyance, were furious at him at moments, but he did not mind it. He did not fear with anyone, and always strived for the team. His aggression, with distinctive leadership, brought India to new heights. Now we were winning abroad, our players could retaliate with eye-in-eye to opponents. He made the Australian captain, Steve Waugh, to wait for toss. He waved his shirt in Lords, in reply to England’s Andrew Flintoff. He filled Indian team with new spark. The opponent captains were not able to digest his tactics; they did not like him, because they never expected the ‘polite’ Indians to be furious. In the process, Sourav had few enemies, inside and outside team, thanks too his distinct and never seen style. But inspite of all this, he was just a player in the team. Perhaps, there was nothing he could have done. So, at last, he had to go, leaving his aggression and flamboyance in the players, as his eternal footprints. The day ends, the evening comes, the furious and aggressive sun has to dim its light, and vanish completely in the night. Dada could not change the law of nature.

Rahul Dravid: ‘Mr. Cool’, ‘Mr. Dependable’, ‘The Wall’ these are some names this man has earned. ‘Earned’ because he did all the hard work through out his career. Many a times, the great master blaster blasted, Dada faltered, but The Wall stood upfront, strong and resilient ever, denying to fail, denying to fall. He is the man entire team looks upon in ordeal. You would often hear ‘out-of-form’ season of every batsman in the world, but this word comes very rarely against the name of Mr. Reliable. He took even the responsibility of wicket-keeping in ODIs for many years. Like Sachin, he enjoys a clean image and respect of opponents on and off field, but not that fame and stardom the first one has, but deserves for sure. He may not be the run – machine, he may not have that aggression, but he the most dependable and reliable batsman. He does not come in the dreams of bowlers hitting them out of ground, he does not hit those high and handsome offside sixes, but he is the one who makes the bowlers to sweat most for his wicket. There is one suggestion from my side for the bowlers: You better knock The Wall down, otherwise he will be there, frustrating you, testing your patience, and slowly and silently, taking the game away from you.

Indian cricket is very popular in sub continent. There are few countries in sub continent that are involved in cricket. Indian team is considered a balanced and powerful one to compete with any strong team of the world. People are crazy and very passionate about cricket in India. Indian cricket team has always been very strong. It got its name registered in cricket history by giving innumerable records. Indian cricket team has given many world-class batsmen, bowlers who created history. In India, if it to be said that people talk cricket, read cricket, sleep cricket and walk cricket, it will not be wrong.

Indian cricket has been under tremendous pressures till now. This makes Indian cricket player tense and disturbed. We happened to see that pressures on international ground. We lost some almost winning matches due to pressures. Indian cricket has never been free from controversies. Even some controversies overshadowed world cricket. Controversies have been responsible placing ups and down in Indian cricket.

Indian cricket has been influencing from media, politician and of course of their fans. These elements have stunned Indian cricket time to time. Players, coaches and selectors had to face fans aggressions. This caused them to feel agony. That led government to increase Security and safety of Indian cricket team. indian cricket is governed by BCCI and BCCI is richest board of cricket world. It lured politician and industrialist to join board. That created tussle between board’s members. It became a big issue of discussion for cricket fans. Former president of BCCI Dalmiya had to resign for bungling of fund of cricket board. Now current president is Shard Pawar.

There have been foreigner coaches for Indian cricket. John Wright was first foreign coach of the Indian team and he is from New Zealand. Greg Chappell is the current coach of Indian team. Unfortunately no one is spared in Indian cricket Sourav gangly had to go out after breaking out skirmish between him. That led to change Indian captain few years back. There can be taken few names that rose to controversy. Those ugly affairs dented the Indian cricket team.

There is a very interesting part of Indian cricket is influence of media. The impact of Media over Indian cricket has been very powerful. Tiny issues or any controversy could not be sneaked away from eyes of media. Whether the matter is of off the field or on the field, media extensively covered the issues. Media influenced selection committee and the bating line up of Indian cricket team. Media captured all issues of Indian cricket with utmost priority. There is not only negative aspect that media offered but also there has been a very encouraging role of media. Indian cricket acquired highly esteemed status in India due to media’s extensive coverage. This caused great popularity of cricket in India.

Indian cricket manage to get corers of rupees due to ad business. Every player gets a chance to make money through ads. Sachin Tendulkar, M.S.Dhoni, V.Sehwag are ads star who seem busy in signing up ads. Indian cricket has achieved big commercial deal with ad companies. That has promoted celebrity image of cricketers. Sometimes, cricketer has to pay price for it in form of criticism if they fail to perform up to the mark.

The positive aspect about Indian cricket team is that after sustaining immense pressures and ups down it achieved a lot in bringing name and fame to Indian cricket.

Cricket as a sport has always intrigued me ever since childhood and although the reasons kept changing with my growing years, but the fascination has still remained intact. The sport has only managed to grow in popularity over the years as new formats are being introduced, there are fresh faces to be seen with each passing year, more countries participating in the game and ofcourse the primary reason being that some players seem to become larger than the game itself. As our advertisers and marketers would agree, that anything promoted by a current reigning god of cricket, is sure to be well received by the masses and whatever the product or service may be, getting cricketers to endorse it, is sure to work and sell products like hot cakes.

Cricket as a game has survived the test of time and has emerged a winner. In some nations, it has managed to create a niche for itself in the hearts of the compatriots and now reigns supreme like a religion, which unites the nation. The affection of the fans is as fickle as the performance of the players. The urgent need to stay connected to scores of a live match has led to the advent of specific online sites that are entirely devoted to cricket. A cricket enthusiast who had to leave the space in front of the television in order to get some work done at office, is now no longer in a perpetual state of depression due to missing out on live updates. Internet sites constantly update the scores of every live match being played and the individual keeps pace with every ball played, with the help of his computer.

Now imagine the worst nightmare of a cricket fan. He is stranded in traffic with no access to a television, radio or a computer and a live match is in progress! In addition, horror of horrors, he cannot get through to the phone of his friends who are lucky enough to be watching the game. However, websites devoted to cricket and telecom service providers have done away with this kind of a torture for cricket fans. The live scores can also be sent to your mobile phone via a short message to the related website. Now cricket score deprivation is indeed a thing of the past and best forgotten.

The fans who are strongly attached to the game can further utilize the cricket special sites. The websites not only offer live score updates but also the whole paraphernalia associated with the game. Be it posters, images of the players, records and statistics and general news and information related to the game, one can find it all on a cricket related website. A true fan will also thoroughly enjoy the discussion forums that are an integral part of such websites. Therefore, if cricket is what makes your heart beat faster then it is time to try out every avenue connected to the game and connect to the world through this amazing game.

Change is the law of nature. Every thing changes with time and so are sports. Every sport has gone under major changes and which provided more popularity to those games. So similarly the heads running cricket have made their fair share of changes in the game.

About 35 years back, when in 1971 first One Day Match was played between England and Australia in Melbourne most of the cricket critics were up against this formate of game. In 1975 West Indies won first official world cup. Soon ODIs became a rage with day-night matches, colored clothing, innovative tactics and new strategies adding more excitement to the game.
The World Cup became a regular fixture and Test cricket also changed with more matches throwing up a winner.

Although after its start ODI cricket reached its many heights but slowly the game is facing decrease in popularity, specially in developed countries. ICC tried its best to spread the game world wide but most of the countries refused it because of its time duration.

But then, in 2003 there was time for one more change in the format with another abridged version of the game coming out in the open. It was the Twenty20 in which each team had only 20 overs to play with the match getting over in about three hours.
And just like the first ODI World Cup, we are witnessing the first Twenty20 World Cup these days.

Once again critics are questioning the standard of game. According to them its just batsman’s game and many bowlers were also echoing same but hatrick by Brett Lee, match winning spells by Daniel Vittori and Mohammad Asif had proved in twenty20 world cup that if conditions will be favorable then there cant be much better cricket than that, example is India – Pakistan match.

According to reports advertisers and sponsors are also keen on twenty20 format then test and ODI.

Twenty20 world cup in South Africa is the example how a fan can enjoy cricket like a outing with friends and family. One has to just spend only three hours for game. For a cricket fan it is like going for live action rather then movies.

That’s for sure that in cricket crazy nation like India popularity and craze for twenty20 will surpass the ODI and that is the reason why rebel Zee Group is starting with twenty20 and BCCI is also following that. England had also announced hike of 25 percent in the twenty20 games from next season.

So ladies and gentlemen you are witnessing the future of cricket which is capable to revolutionize and globalize the game.

It is a surprise and an absolute pity that in a country like India, where cricket has such a mass following, the quality of the team is pedestrian and has consistently produced only mediocre results. With a few small changes, it need not remain that way.

There are 2 broad scenarios that result in a country excelling in certain sports. One is a government sponsored approach to excelling in sports where people are picked out by the government at a young age, trained vigorously over a few years under a well structure and government funded program and then unleashed on the world stage to get good results. This is something that China has done very well. The other approach is when a sport becomes part of the culture, the masses enjoy playing it, there is a huge following and the fact that so many people play it increases the talent pool available. The best of them go on to represent the country with distinction. This is something that can be seen in football in countries like Brazil, Argentina, France, Italy etc. This scenario is far more enjoyable, sustainable and also produces consistently good teams. But although cricket has captured the public imagination in India, the country has struggled to put together a quality talent pool and subsequently a top-draw team consistently for very many years now. Just 2 things done differently can change things for the better.

1. Role of statistics

The game of cricket lends itself to great analysis by numbers. Starting with plain batting and bowling averages, the analysis can be extended to the performances in different grounds / countries, against different oppositions and at different stages of the game.
What this means is that there is minimum need for any subjectivity when it comes to judging a player. The first step towards improvement therefore is to eliminate subjectivity and minimize or eliminate the weightage given to selectors’ subjective calls.

Implementation Mechanism: The process of objectivity has to start from the first level of the game. At the junior level, the idea is to get a large number of players to play and to track the performances of this large pool. This should be done all across the country and the only thing needed is a good computer programme and scorer & operator to capture all the details of the batting, bowling and fielding performances of each individual of each team. Out of this, the top X% of performers can be picked to go onto the next stage of representation and development. So, there could be a Basic level where anyone can enroll and play tournaments. To go to the next Level 2, the top 40% based on actual performance from the Basic level will be selected. Similarly, to go the Level 3, the top 40% from Level 2 based on performance will be selected and so on. This gradation and movement from one tier to the next could be a yearly or half-yearly process. This process ensures objective selection of players based on actual performance and not someone’s judgment call.

The current system (for age group and other selections) where a few selectors “see” a player perform for a few minutes in the nets or match and then decide whether he is to be selected is not fair and foolproof. Further, it is not unheard of for selectors to be paid or offered favors to select certain players. Once this happens, the quality of the pool available is immediately compromised and sub-standard players are the only ones who will move onto the next levels. Many observers of the game have pointed out to this being the biggest ill ailing Indian cricket today.

Bottom-line: Limit Selectors subjectivity and where possible, eliminate selectors! Use actual numbers every year to select top performers.

2. Role of corporates

Corporates in India love cricket and rightly so too. The game has a lot of breaks which means plenty of opportunities for inserting ads, the game calls for and gets high involvement from the watchers and lastly, the game extends for a long duration which means it takes care of programming needs of the TV channels for a long time!
Since cricket is so important for corporates, it is in their own interest to ensure that the game continues to remain popular among the masses. This will happen only if the team does well. After all, how long can a team of losers hold the people’s interest? If India continues to flounder in cricket, it won’t be long before it goes the hockey way, where a once proud and unbeatable team is always losing and no one cares or expects anything better from them any more! An active role by corporates to ensure that the team is made strong and stays strong is beneficial for all concerned. Corporates can do this by backing youngsters and providing training and coaching facilities to young players. Even if one in a thousand that a corporate supports goes on to play for the country, the mileage that the corporate will get out of it is immense.

Implementation Mechanism: A successful model of corporate involvement in shaping young cricketers is the MRF Pace Academy. Unfortunately, it seems to be waging a lone battle to get winners on the team. Other corporates must establish similar coaching academies and provide coaches and instructors to youngsters. With the right guidance, these people will be able to perform well in tournaments. The more the good performers, the better the level of play becomes and the more likely that the top performers will actually be really good.

In this regard, the recent announcement by the Zee group that they will be launching a league with coaches and trainers is great news. But to be really successful, it also needs a good input of players who will respond well to professional coaching. That is a gap that needs to be filled urgently.

Bottom-line: Corporate need to contribute to protect their own self-interest.

Conclusion

Just these 2 things will go a long way in making the Indian team the best cricket team in the world. But it is vital to have these two things go hand-in-hand. Having a great, objective selection process is of no use if the input quality is bad and similarly, having great corporate support and training facilities is of no use if real performers don’t get selected! Implementing the above 2 things together will work magic though and following Indian cricket will become a rewarding experience again for millions of India’a passionate followers!
